Cording presser foot

Cording-presser-foot

We have made this step-by-step guide for using the cording presser foot; it’s very useful to place 1 to 3 thin cords with only one seam.

We love this part… when using it, you can sew with decorative thread.

You can use it on cushions, quilts, children’s and babies’ garments, etc.

Once you use it, you will want to apply it to all your projects because it’s an easy and fast way to add an extra touch to your sewing projects.

Use it to decorate, placing up to three cords, ribbons, or decorative threads.

In this example, we used the basic zig-zag stitch; I mean, if your sewing machine has only basic stitches, you could use it without any problems.

And if your sewing machine has many decorative stitches, the possibilities to use this presser foot are infinity.

Let's start with this step-by-step guide.

Step 1. Slide the cords onto the right side of the presser foot.

To start, select your ribbons, yarns, or cords, and place the tip by sliding the cords on the left side of the presser foot, taking care of the tip out at the front of the presser foot.

Step 2. Place each cord in the guide on the presser foot.

Organize the cords by placing each one in each space of the presser foot guide.

Step 3. Position the presser foot and arrange the cords underneath and to the back of the presser foot.

Now you can place the presser foot on your sewing machine, put the cords and remember that the edge should be at the back of the presser foot.

Place the excess cord on and in front of the foot, as shown in the pic.

Step 4. Select the stitch; and set it to the maximum width

Select the type of stitch you will use; with this presser foot, you can use the zig-zag stitch or another decorative stitch you like.

Now adjust the width; we suggest you use the maximum width.

For this project, we use the Brother St371hd – (hard work) sewing machine; here, we leave you the link to obtain yours.

Step 5. Place the fabric under the presser foot, start sewing, and finish.

At this step, you are ready for sewing; place the fabric under the presser foot, and start sewing.

Observe how the cords and the seam are aligned very well.

Another vantage of this presser foot is you can use it to sew 1 or 2 cords and place them where you want; this way, you can keep a uniform distance along the seam.

  • For some extra hacks about your project pieces, we suggest you make some sewing tests with remnants of the same fabric you are using.
  • Try changing the length and width stitch and test moving the tension on your sewing machine.
  • You can make a test by combining different thread colors and decorative ribbons.
  • While sewing, watch if your ribbons are going on without any problem; this way, you will obtain the best results.
