Try this DIY project, you will love the result!
Measure and cut fabric rectangles of the following sizes:
Hem the edges of the 7” x 3 1/4” and 7” x 4” rectangles by 1/2in. We use a decorative stitch with contrasting thread.
Pin the hems of the rectangles together by 3/4” and sew a straight stitch along the join line.
Face this piece right sides together with the 7” x 5 1/2” rectangle and pin them together.
Trace a heart on the fabric, as shown in the image. Remember to leave a 1/2” seam allowance on each edge.
Sew along the outline of the heart with a straight stitch length 2, finish off and cut the outline of the piece.
When finished, make small cuts or notches in the heart’s curved areas and corners. Turn the piece to the front and stitch a topstitched seam along the front of the piece.
Sew a 1/2” wide hem along the top edge of the pocket with a decorative stitch.
Mark a seam allowance of 1/2” from the edges for the outer pocket hems.
Place the pocket on the front piece and pin it in place.
Sew around the pocket with a decorative stitch.
Now, mark the location of the heart on the other rectangle 1 1/4” from the bottom corner.
Place the heart opening facing the right side of the fabric and pin it in place.
Open the heart pocket and stitch a 4” long straight stitch; this will join it to the body of the bag.
First, place the front and back pieces facing right sides together and sew with a straight stitch at 1/2” on the low edge and sides.
Turn the bag to the right side, and you will have the bag’s body with a pocket on each side.
Fold the handle pieces in half, sew 2” from the edge and turn the piece over.
Mark a 1” hem on the bag at the edge of the opening of the bag.
Attach the handle to the bag, aligning the ends of the handles with the top edge of the bag.
Pin and sew with a straight stitch at the marked points.
Pin the hem, fold in the 1” seam allowance and sew using a decorative stitch and a contrasting thread color.
You have a super practical bag to carry whatever you want in your hand bag or car.
This project is beneficial nowadays; think green, and please recycle!
