It’s straightforward, and the best of all is that you can make it with the width of the cord you want and your favorite fabrics.

Adding these details to your sewing projects will give them a unique and original look.

Nowadays, we can find several types of corded bias binding or edge.

However, there are times when our projects require a particular fabric or finish.

So... Let's start

You need:

  • Cord of the width of your choice.
    We will use 5mm diameter cord.
  • Fabric of your choice
  • Paper sheet
  • Thread in the color of your choice
  • Ruler
  • Pins
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Presser foot.

  • Calculate the amount necessary for your project

Step 1:

Create the template for cutting the bias binding.

Draw a 45º line on the paper.

  • Place the cord on the line you drew and fold the sheet to cover it.

Step 2:

Mark on the paper the area covered by the cord.

Measure 1.5cm more seam allowance and cut.

  • You will have the template yo cut bias binding with the exact measurement required for the cord.

Step 3:

Now mark the bias strips on the fabric with the help of the template.

Cut the amount of bias binding needed for your project.

To illustrate, here we share the video tutorial to show you how to cut your bias strips and sew them on the machine.

Step 4:

Now place the cord in the center of the bias binding strip and pin in place.

Step 5:

Prepare your machine with thread of the color of the fabric and the right needle for the fabric.

  • We use Schmetz universal needle cal. 90/14

Attach the presser foot for fastening and select straight stitch and length 3.

Step 6:

Place the binding under the presser foot.

Keep the cord very close to the presser foot and sew to secure the bias binding.

  • The binding will be ready to attach to your projects.
